The product is white to yellowish monoclinic prism, acicular crystal or powder. The melting point is 106.5 C, the boiling point is more than 360 (partial decomposition), 226 C (1.33 kPa), 287 C (13.3 kPa), the relative density is 1.225 (25/4 ℃), and the refractive index is 1.4303 (111 ℃). Soluble in hot water, alcohol and hot benzene, slightly soluble in water, ether and benzene.
Usage: Most of azelaic acid is used to produce DOZ plasticizer. Other uses are as raw materials of perfume, lubricant, oil and polyamide resin. DOZ is used as cold-resistant plasticizer for cable, film, artificial leather, etc. It has low volatility and good aging resistance. DOZ can also be used as a softener for synthetic rubber. Azerbadic acid used in DOZ production in Japan accounts for about 70% of the total consumption of Azerbadic acid. Azerbonitrile can be prepared by dehydration of azelaic acid through ammonia.
