From the United States and Italy, the researchers found two tomato varieties (San Marzano and Corbarino) all extract can
prevent the growth of gastric cancer cells and inhibit the malignant features. The study's co-author, temple university of
Philadelphia Sbarro Antonio, director of the institute of molecular medicine Giordano professor and his colleagues compared
their latest study, published in the journal of cellular physiology.
Previous research has shown that compounds found in tomatoes, such as lycopene, a carotenoid that makes tomatoes red)
may help fight cancer. However, the researchers noted that very few studies of the entire cancer-fighting effect of the whole
tomato had begun to attack the study.
The researchers examined the role of both the San Marzano and Corbarino varieties of tomato extract for gastric cancer cell
lines. They found that each extract not only blocks the growth of stomach cancer cells, but also interferes with the metastasis
]of cancer cells.
In addition, the researchers found that the cancer-fighting effect of the whole extract of tomatoes was not specific to a particular
compound.Their anti-tumor effect doesn't seem to be related to certain ingredients, such as lycopene, which suggests that the
cancer-fighting effect of tomatoes is generally effective.
The results of the study suggest that whole extracts of tomatoes may help prevent and treat stomach cancer.
