Castor Oil

Characteristic of Castor Oil

Castor oil contains a large amount of ricinic acid (more than 80%). Therefore, it has many unique properties:

1. Easy to dissolve in ethanol, difficult to dissolve in petroleum ether. The existence of this characteristic can easily distinguish castor oil from other oils.

2. Viscosity is much higher than general grease, 680 CPS at 25, viscosity index 84, friction coefficient is very low (0.1).

Castor oil has good fluidity. Refined castor oil can still flow at - 22 C and no turbidity after quenching at - 50 C. It is an ideal lubricant for aviation and high-speed machinery and a protective oil for power belts.

3. It has strong optical rotation because the asymmetric carbon atoms in ricinolic acid, its main fatty acid, are behind 12.

4. The dielectric constant is about 4.30, which is the highest in common oils.

5. The relative density and acetyl value of castor oil are higher than those of common oil.

6. Castor oil is a typical non-drying liquid oil with good storage stability and almost no oxidative rancidity in air.

Scope of application

Castor oil inducers are widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, lubricants, lubricants, metal processing oils, fiber oils, coatings, plastics, adhesives and plasticizers.
