Calendula Oil

Calendula is rich in a variety of vitamins, especially vitamin A and vitamin C. 

Calendula can prevent pigmentation, improve skin luster and elasticity, slow down aging, and avoid skin relaxation and wrinkling. 

Almost all parts can be eaten;its petals have cosmetic function, flowers contain carotenoids, tomato hydrocarbons, butterfly plum flavin, jadeite, volatile oil, resin, mucus, malic acid and so on. 

The root contains bitterness, Shanjindongdiol, and the seed contains glycerol ester, wax alcohol and alkaloids. Shampoo can make hair lighter. 

Ancient Egyptians believed that marigold could delay ageing, while Indians respected it as a sacred flower. 

In the Middle Ages,Calendula was used to treat injuries and to fight plague and the Black Death.

Medicinal value

(1) Calendula oil has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, especially on Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. Its antimicrobial components are soluble in alcohol but not in water, and the effect is better in alkaline environment.

(2) Reducing blood lipids. Calendula saponins can reduce serum cholesterol, free fatty acids, phospholipids, beta-lipoprotein, total lipids and triglyceride in experimental hyperlipidemia rats, and also reduce liver total lipids, cholesterol and triglyceride.

(3) The polysaccharides from Calendula officinalis have strong immune stimulating effect.

(4) Calendula extract has sedative effect on central nervous system and can reduce reflex excitability; intravenous injection can reduce blood pressure, enhance heart activity, increase heart rate amplitude and slow heart rate.

It can promote bile secretion and accelerate wound healing. In Europe, it is customary to take Calendula orally to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis and liver and gallbladder diseases. If used for digestive tract cancer, it can alleviate poisoning symptoms, improve appetite, sleep, etc. It can also be used for irregular menstruation.
